If you own a property in India, you might know that, like every other kind of tax you pay, there is also a property tax to be paid annually. Since the evolution of technology and the Internet, doing taxes nowadays is as easy as ordering food. Look around you. Do you see any person without an internet-enabled smartphone? No, right?

Smartphones have made our lives a lot easier, and they are the best tool in your hand to make property tax online payment instead of physically going to the concerned site for the same. Just a few taps on your mobile, and you are good to go.

I’m not trying to promote any organisation or brand here and just sharing my personal experience on how I paid this tax online, and it was super convenient. I’ve been using the Bajaj Finserv application for my mobile and broadband recharge for over a year. However, when I was planning to go to the Municipality office to pay my property tax, a colleague of mine told me that municipality property tax online payment could be easily made via the same app only.

What is a property tax?

Also known as municipal tax, property tax is paid on property owned by an individual. Government officials charge property tax on all tangible property a person owns, and like every other kind of tax, it is to be paid every year.

Levied on real estate properties such as residences, office buildings etc., the tax depends on the government’s policy and whether it should be paid to the Municipal Corporation or the local state government.

You can easily make a municipality property tax online payment on your smartphone nowadays.

How is it calculated?

Remember, before making the property tax online payment, it is essential to know on what basis it is calculated.

The property tax is calculated by the local government authorities and paid by the property owner. It is crucial to know that the tenant is not liable to pay this tax, and only the owner is responsible.

Meanwhile, it is essential to know that the property tax is based on the property valuation and appraisal depending on the locality in which an individual resides. Therefore, the amount varies per the locality’s type of levy, facilities available, and other factors.

Where is the property tax used?

Government officials use the assessed taxes to execute several projects to upscale the living standard of the citizens and for an economic boost. Furthermore, they use these assessed taxes to fund water and sewer improvements, fire protection, education, road and highway construction, and other services that benefit the entire community.
